St. Petersburg (Amtrak) Station

This vast facility was Amtrak's former passenger train station in St. Petersburg, Florida.

It was built on its current site in 1963 by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad following the government's effort to relocate the original facility (1913) near Downtown.

In 1968, the station's operations went to the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad until 1971, when Amtrak assumed operation.

In 1984, passenger rail service to St. Petersburg stalled when Amtrak discontinued servicing Pinellas County.

Operations continued from the St. Petersburg station for Amtrak's Thruway Motorcoach bus service, linking passengers to rail connections in Tampa and Orlando.

The station served as a boarding location for the bus service until the 1990s, when the station was closed.

Today, Amtrak continues to offer Thruway Motorcoach service for St. Petersburg and all of Pinellas County through a station located in Pinellas Park, Florida.

The Clearwater-St. Petersburg Amtrak Station retains the STP Amtrak code previously used by the 1963 St. Petersburg station.

Tampa Union Station (TUS)

This historic train station in Florida was designed by Joseph F. Leitner and was opened in 1912 by the Tampa Union Station Company.

It was initially to unify the operations of three service providers, namely Atlantic Coast Line, Seaboard Air Line, and Tampa Northern Railroad.

In 1974, it was listed on the US National Register of Historic Places, and in 1988, the facility received local landmark status from the City of Tampa.

Operations at TUS shut down in 1984, and it was reopened to the public 14 years later, in 1998.

Today it operates as an Amtrak station for the Silver Star's Thruway Motorcoach Services. It provides services to the following destinations:

  • Orlando
  • Lakeland
  • Pinellas Park-St. Petersburg
  • Bradenton
  • Sarasota
  • Port Charlotte
  • Fort Myers
